There’s something lacking from the mix on this version though.

David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust

March 12, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Ziggy played guitar.

Something simple today. My mind can’t take anything too challenging. Whenever I listen to this I’m throwing Ronsonic shapes with an imaginary Les Paul. This goes beyond air guitar. You wouldn’t know I’m doing it. The movements are imperceptible.

I Wanna Be Your Dog – The Stooges

January 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Stooges guitarist, Ron Asheton, was found dead today in his home in Ann Arbor, near Detroit.  He died a few days ago of a heart attack it seems.  Not much more to say really, other than to put forward this track from their debut album as some sort of tribute.  His guitar playing on this pretty much sums up his importance and influence in popular music.  That was him, second from the left.

Sin City – Flying Burrito Brothers

January 5, 2009 · 1 Comment

I first heard this song back in the eighties when Billy Bragg did it accompanied by the (careful with the spelling now) Country and Western Gynecologist, Hank Wangford on mandolin.

This is the  original by the Flying Burrito Brothers, a band comprising various ex-members of the Byrds led by Gram Parsons wearing his trademark Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors suit.

Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On) – Robert Plant and Alison Krauss

December 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’m not planning to do any of that review of the year stuff that other bloggers and other more traditonal publications are doing but one of my highlights of 2008 was when Robert Plant joined Fairport Convention onstage at Cropredy Festival for The Battle of Evermore.

This track originally by the Everly Brothers, comes from his collaboration with Alison Krauss on the Raising Sand album.  T Bone Burnett, a man with a collection of fine guitars, does a fine job on the production with the spacious reverb and slapback echo.

You can hear this track over at YouTube but for copyright reason it can’t be embedded here.

Body Count’s In The House – Body Count

December 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Not really heard much to get excited about today (well Saturday) but this was on Kerrang! on the way home.  Was a bit surprised to hear an unedited version on the radio.

Body Count’s In the House is from Ice T’s controversial Rock/Rap crossover album released in 1992.

….And I’m Ice Mother Fuckin’ T, bitch.
