Before Guitar Hero, SingStar and Rock Band there weren’t many decent music and rhythm based games around. Parappa the Rappa was pretty much the exception and it was a brilliant game. There were no fancy controllers and peripherals for this Playstation game. Gameplay was just mashing the joypad buttons in time to make PaRappa rap. It had quirky paper cutout style graphics and a sense of humour and was a regular fixture of several boys’ weekends. We also played UmJammer Lammy a lot. There was some-thing quite Zappa-like about the guitar tunes on that. (update: found the soundtrack to UmJammer here)
I’ve got the soundtrack album for the PaRappa game which has all the raps from the game plus other silly little ditties.
So after a lively NYE and a big fryup to bring us back to life we got into the car to head back to Brum from St Albans. We hit the M10 and the driver put some music on. Not something nice and relaxing for a post party come down but a bit of Wu Tang. The Gravel Pit wasn’t on the album we were listening to but I was reminded of this, yet another great track I’d forgotten about.
Been playing a fair bit of Rock Band today, unlocking tracks ready for everybody to have a go on New Years Eve. I love playing this track. The guitar part also seems to do the mad scratching.
Not really heard much to get excited about today (well Saturday) but this was on Kerrang! on the way home. Was a bit surprised to hear an unedited version on the radio.
